Utah Valley
Aikido is located in Orem,
Utah and offers training in Aikido, grappling,
and self-defense.
Aikido is the Japanese martial
art known both for it's flowing movement and
martial effectiveness. Its techniques are
taught to law enforcement as the basis of their
arrest and control techniques.
Founded by Tug Gettling Sensei
in 1996, Utah Valley Aikido is affiliated with
the California Aikido Association, and the
Aikikai Foundation--Aikido world headquarters
in Tokyo, Japan.
Provo
UT Provo is the largest city in Utah County,
with a population of 88,519. Provo is the home of Brigham
Young University (BYU), the 2nd largest private
university in the USA. BYU has undergraduate classes in
the martial arts, including western fencing, wrestling,
tae kwon do, kenpo karate, and jujutsu. Many of the
current martial art teachers in the Provo-Orem area began
their martial art studies in a class or club at
BYU.
Orem
UT Orem has a population 74,402, and is the
current home of Utah Valley Aikido. Utah Valley
University (UVU), located in Orem, hosts Utah's only NCAA
wrestling team. UVU also offers martial art classes and
clubs.
Utah
Valley Utah Valley is located within Utah
County, in the north-central part of the state, south of
Salt Lake City. It is dominated geographically by the
Wasatch Mountains of the Uinta National Forest to the
east, and Utah Lake to the west.
Besides its two
largest cities, Provo and Orem, Utah Valley also includes
the communities of Alpine, American Fork, Cedar Hills,
Elk Ridge, Genola, Goshen, Highland, Lehi, Lindon,
Mapleton, Payson, Pleasant Grove, Salem, Santaquin,
Spanish Fork, and Springville.
